Community Health Systems, Inc. is an operator of hospitals in the United States. The Company provides healthcare services, through the hospitals that it owns and operates throughout the United States. As of December 31, 2009, the Company owned or leased 122 hospitals. These hospitals are located across 29 states, with an aggregate of 18,140 licensed beds. The Company generates revenues by providing a range of general and specialized hospital healthcare services to patients in the communities in which it is located. Services provided by its hospitals include general acute care services, emergency room services, general and specialty surgery, critical care, internal medicine, obstetrics and diagnostic services. As of December 31, 2009, the Company held 42 of the 50 hospitals acquired from Triad Hospitals, Inc. The Company owns physician practices, imaging centers, and ambulatory surgery centers.
