Boeing Co. said it would resume flight tests of the 787 Dreamliner on December 23,2010 , after the fleet was grounded last month when an in-flight power failure raised questions about the readiness of the long-delayed plane.
Scott Fancher, general manager of the 787 program, said the company expects to complete its review of the Dreamliner program's schedule in January. "As we return to flight test and determine the pace of that activity, we remain focused on developing a new program schedule," he said.
He said the company will initially resume a series of tests that remain to be completed in the flight-test program, which will be followed later by a resumption of certification testing.
The company said it installed an interim version of updated power- distribution-system software on the first plane to return to flight tests. A fire in a power panel caused the power failure that grounded the test fleet, and was likely caused by the presence of foreign debris, the company has said.
Boeing completed testing of that interim software on the plane earlier this week, according to its release. Thursday's testing will include an intentional deployment of a small turbine that is deployed when back-up power is required.
Boeing shares were up 0.8% at $65.10 in recent trading.
